Bulgaria set to emerge as technological hub for foreign companies in gaming industry

The exhibition of the industry BEGE 2023 opened in the presence of over 6,000 exhibitors from 65 countries EEGS

Bulgaria is emerging as a technological hub of the gaming industry, Angel Iribozov, Chairman of the AGIB Management Board, said at the opening of BEGE 2023. “Companies from all over the world are choosing to invest in this country and move their offices here. There are now more than 30 foreign companies setting up their studios for streaming, technical support and customer service in Sofia and Plovdiv. These brands create new jobs for highly qualified staff”, he added.

BEGE 2023 started with an official ceremony attended by the Director of the Supervision of Gambling and Gambling Activities Directorate at the National Revenue Agency, Alexander Popov, and Boyko Takov, PhD, Executive Director of the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises.

Alexander Popov said: “The invitation to be here shows that we, as a regulator, have managed to build mutual trust and good partnership with the business. The exhibition demonstrates and introduces standards to the sector and every year its image raises the profile of the gaming industry.” 

The exhibition is underway from 22nd to 24th November at Inter Expo Center Sofia. This year it features exhibitors from 65 countries on three continents, who come together to show trends and innovative solutions in the industry. This year’s theme is Proximity. Where Progress Takes Root. BEGE is the largest annual meeting of industry professionals in Europe – manufacturers and suppliers, land-based and online operators, affiliates, payment service providers, media and associations. The organizer of the event is the Association of the Gaming Industry in Bulgaria (AIIB). 

Before the ceremony, an official press conference on the topic Latest trends in the gaming industry in Bulgaria and Europe. Bulgaria – a technology hub for leading companies in the gambling sector in the world was held in the presence of industry experts, including Angel Iribozov (Bulgaria), Peter Remmers (The Netherlands), Secretary General of The European Association for the Study of Gambling, Dr.  Joerg Hofmann (Germany), Senior Partner at the Melchers law firm, Gemma Boore (UK), Senior Fellow at Harris Hagan, and Alexis Wicen (Malta), Co-Founder and CEO of Unibo. The highlights in their statements included current data about the gaming industry in Bulgaria and the world, the transformation of Bulgaria into a technological hub for the gaming sector, advertising gambling under conditions of a regulatory flow, as well as technological trends and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in improving user experience.   
The accompanying BEGE 2023 Eastern European Gaming Summit (EEGS) brings together experts and professionals from the offline and online sectors, regulators and experts who exchange information, experience and ideas. EEGS provides information and analysis on the latest regulatory and technological developments in the gaming industry not only in Europe but worldwide. Topics at this year’s forum explore gamification and AI, digital marketing trends, as well as the present and future of regulations and responsible gaming in the gaming industry.
